SOFTWARE PROGRAMMER – MANCHESTER, NORTH WEST
This is an exciting opportunity to join the IT team in a fast growing engineering and manufacturing company based in the North West. The company designs and manufactures a range of commercial transport products supplying major fleet operators and commercial vehicle manufacturers. The IT team designs, develops and supports a range of bespoke IT solutions spanning manufacturing planning and execution, stock control, supplier management as well as sales, customer and quotation systems. As the company is developing, the bespoke application programming requirements are increasing and the company is now looking for a full time software programmer to join the IT team.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES– SOFTWARE PROGRAMMER
Reporting to the IT Director, you will be assisting the programming team in designing, writing and supporting both new and existing bespoke applications. Working as part of the IT team you will be working on key projects to enhance the IT infrastructure that is supporting the organisation.
You’ll assist with the migration of older software to new systems, as well as working on new software from the planning stage, conducting testing and validation by talking to the various stakeholders and ensure that the projects are delivered on time and to specification. You’ll help users to get the information they need by creating, updating and automating reports and on-line access to live data.
KEY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE – SOFTWARE PROGRAMMER
The company is currently in the process of migrating older ASP and VBA applications to the .NET platform, mainly using C#. Knowledge of .NET is therefore essential, with ASP and VBA being useful, however good programming skills in other similar languages would be sufficient.
Many of the applications use Microsoft SQL as the back end database, so knowledge of relational databases and T-SQL will also be required. Further to this knowledge of data exchange techniques (XML, JSON etc) would be useful.
You’ll have good communication skills and be able to assist with supporting applications users. You will need good knowledge of developments in IT and be able to suggest how the company can utilise these to develop better software
The company is beginning a roll out of Android devices so any relevant programming skills, such as Java, would be helpful. As the company uses a wide range of other technologies, experience of other programming languages and systems (e.g. PHP, Arduino, Solidworks EPDM) and related fields such as electronics may be helpful but are by no means essential. You’ll get the chance to work with and learn such technologies on the job.
Salary is up to £21000 basic per annum
